The Garden Course has been redesigned and has had new holes added and other holes that have been changed making the course far more challenging yet conquerable. The course rating increased from 103 to 121 making the course more difficult.
The first change you will notice is the very first tee, what used to be a relative easy par four is now a very challenging par 5 and every shot must be thought out carefully if you are to get a par. The drive must be played down the right hand side of the fairway, your second shot is blind and also must hit fairway if at all you wish to hit the green in three shots. A creek awaits to swallow up any shot that is at all short. The higher handicap players would be wise to lay up before the creek.
The first six holes on the course could easily be called the Devil's Half Dozen. They will certainly dictate what your scorecard says at the end of the round.
The second hole is a par 4 that will make most golfers happy to score a bogey on. A dog leg right, you have to hit a good drive to be able to reach it in two.
The third hole is a very deceptive par 3. It's 190 yards but the wind direction on this part of the course will change your club selection by one or two, this hole too leaves no margin for error.
Now we come to the signature hole number four. This double dog leg par5 will give you some leeway on your drive but from then on it's decision and precision. Be wary this green can be treacherous, it is sloped and a two foot putt could easily turn into a twenty foot return putt.
Barrie Brown the owner of Sequoia Springs was also the architect in the remodeling and has been complimented on his new redesigning and new layout of the course.
A visitor from Calgary said that this was a "Definite come back course". Once a golfer plays it they really want to come back again.
The par threes that started the old back nine are now down to two and number 13 is a new great par 4, a tricky dog leg right and another new intriguing hole is the 104 yard par3. Another new green is the 15th with three tiers built into it.
The "Garden Course" has changed in design. New blooms are always being planted and to play golf here is still like having a walk in the park.
